Heterologous Expression of a Putative ClpC Chaperone Gene Leads to Induction of a Host Metabolite

By attempting to heterologously express a biosynthetic gene cluster identified via a resistance-gene-guided approach, we unexpectedly observed induction of a host metabolite. Transcriptional analysis and literature precedence suggest that induction was caused due to the expression of a putative caseinolytic protease C (ClpC) chaperone gene present in the gene cluster.

Synthesis of Bis-Strychnos Alkaloids (-)-Sungucine, (-)-Isosungucine, and (-)-Strychnogucine B from (-)-Strychnine

Concise syntheses of bis-Strychnos alkaloids (-)-sungucine, (-)-isosungucine, and (-)-strychnogucine B have been accomplished from (-)-strychnine. Computational chemistry was employed to rationalize the regiochemical course of key transformations therein.

Trace Element Analysis, Model-Based Clustering and Flushing to Prevent Drinking Water Contamination in Public Schools

Inductively coupled plasma tandem mass spectrometry (ICP-MS/MS) and model-based clustering were used to identify schools more prone to drinking water contamination by As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Sb, Se and Tl. A 5-60 min flushing procedure is recommended to minimize potential contamination due to water flow stagnation during the summer break.

Synthesis of New 1,2,3-Triazolo-naphthalimide/phthalimide Conjugates via 'Click' Reaction: DNA Intercalation and Cytotoxic Studies

1,2,3-Triazolo-naphthalimide/phthalimide conjugates have been synthesized directly from alkyl/benzyl bromides, sodium azide and alkynes by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition catalyzed by bis[(tetrabutylammonium)di-µ-iodo-diiododicuprate(I)]. The title compounds were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxic potential and DNA interaction.
