About
the Electronic Supplementary Information (ESI)
l The
Sociedade Brasileira de Química is launching the Electronic Supplementary
Information (ESI) service in 2000.
l This is a
free facility that enables authors to enhance and increase the impact of their
articles. Such data can take advantage of the electronic medium.
l Authors
can also improve the readability of their articles by placing appropriate
material, such as repetitive experimental details and bulky data, with the ESI
service.
l Initially
the formats accepted will be limited to those described below, however, further
formats will quickly be supported
l Authors
should submit ESI with their article. The extra material will be refereed along
with their article and to the same standards.
Web
address of the ESI
l The Web address of the ESI
will be referred to in the article, which will provide the context in which the
ESM should be viewed.
l Authors
are encouraged to consider what types of data could be deposited using this
system that will enhance their article.
l Authors
should, where possible, supply data in the following file types. Other formats
may be supplied, and every effort will be made to use these where possible. If
you are providing an unusual file type, please provide the Editorial Office
with details of any additional software that would be required to view the
files. Such software should be available freely, preferably via the web.
l Authors
are encouraged to make full use of colour when submitting graphical files. However,
as the files are to be viewed electronically, the maximum size should not
exceed 640x480 pixels.
l The following formats for
graphical files are preferred:
GIF
JPEG
Embedded in a Microsoft Word file
l Please provide text files in
one of the following formats. They can be utilised to place e.g. bulky data and
additional experimental details.
Plain Text (txt)
Microsoft Word (doc)
WordPerfect files (wpd)
Crystallograhic
Information Files (CIFs)
l CIFs of
the structure(s) to be reported in the intending publication, previously
submitted to relevant Data Center (see http://www.sbq.org.br/jbcs/x-ray.html), can also be submitted as ESI.
l Submission
should be done via e-mail at the time of submission of the typescript.
l Authors
are also encouraged to use their CIFs to produce 3D molecular files.
