This cover reflects the capability of an ozonation treatment in reducing the antimicrobial activity of domestic and hospital wastewater samples, thus proving to be an effective polishing treatment for such effluents. The antimicrobial activity of these samples is caused by the presence of residues of several antibiotics acting synergistically and is reduced by the mineralization of these molecules through ozonation. Details are presented in the Article Fluoroquinolones in Hospital Wastewater: Analytical Method, Occurrence, Treatment with Ozone and Residual Antimicrobial Activity Evaluation by Caio Rodrigues-Silva, Rafael S. Porto, Sabrina G. dos Santos, Jerusa Schneider and Susanne Rath on page 1447.

Coconut oil is used domestically because of its health benefits. Nevertheless, it is a high-cost material and it has been subject to adulterations with lower price oils and fats. This study reports a fast, simple and conclusive methodology to detect low quantities of intentionally adulterated coconut oil with soybean oil.

Two new compounds, caryopristimerin and 2α,3α,22β-trihydroxy-21-oxo-29-nor-friedelan-24-oic acid, were isolated from Salacia crassifolia roots. This is the first report of a dimer formed with a quinonemethide-derivative and the sesquiterpene caryophyllene (caryopristimerin) linked by carbon-carbon bonds possibly via homo Diels-Alder reaction.
