Cinnamic acids and arylcrylonitriles are rod-shape liquid crystals and photoresponsive materials with light emission in the blue region spectrum. Rod-like molecules synthetized in this work self-assembly in layers in condensed state to form SmA mesophase. In solution, they are bright blue when exposed to UV radiation. The analysis of thermal and photophysical behavior for this blue blow sticks was performed. Details are presented in the Article Blue Glow Sticks: Cinnamic Acids and Arylacrylonitriles with Liquid-Crystalline Properties and Highly Fluorescent by Aline Tavares, Rebeca O. Costa, Caroline S. B. Weber, Thiago Cazati, Marco A. Ceschi, André A. Vieira and Aloir A. Merlo on page 98.
